The Great Outdoors Now In Your Home Office

A Card That Turns Into a Mini Garden

That’s a pretty fantastic greeting card combining my interests in papercrafts and interactivity with your audience. I almost wished I had done something like this for my collateral in college. But whose to say it’s not too late to build something like this now?

Personally, I think that they could have done a few things to make it better. I’m not sure what type of paper is used, but I’d be concerned about the paper getting too wet after a while. Although for all I know, it could be some sort of plastic stock or plastic coating so that concern could be a non-issue. But in case it is actually paper, I would consider using either plastic or using a peat round to grow the plants. Also, on the subject of plants, I’d rather see a variety of plants or maybe even herbs. Maybe I’m a bit too pragmatic, but the idea of having a little herb plant growing in your office seems refreshing to have, especially if your a tea drinker.

Anyways, spring is right around the corner so it may be something to consider…

A Bit Late to the Party

We’re not saying this body wash will make your man smell into a romantic millionaire jet fighter pilot, but we are insinuating it.

So this has been floating around for a few weeks now, but I’ve finally gotten a chance to sit down and watch it. I’m only sorry I didn’t get a chance to sooner.

Leo interviews Craig Allen and Eric Kallman of Wieden + Kennedy to find out how Old Spice “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” was made.

Although what really stood out to me was the whole behind the scenes deal. Caution: the video is a bit long (19:35).

So for the sake of those people with short attention spans here’s a tl:dr: The filming took about 3 days and they used the 56th take. The actor that plays the man is Isaiah Mustafa who used to play in the NFL. Yes that is his voice. That is a bathroom set built on half a boat out close to the waters. The shirt was rigged to fly onto him. Majority of everything was done in one take with the exception of the overflowing diamonds/emerging Old Spice bottle. That scene was filmed beforehand with an automated hand like contraception that fed the gems through to create the overflowing effect and the rising bottle and then later superimposed for the final effect. As he’s reaching for the oysters, he sits down on a seat which places him on the horse.

Bonus video (was written on set):

Don’t smell like sunsets and baby powder. Smell like jet fighters and punching.

They ended up having to tweak it because “[...] originally he was suppose to run on the horse but that ended up being slightly impossible. Just physics says that it’s not possible.”

I Should Get Off My Highhorse, I’m Starting to Get Bowlegged

I just sat for about twenty minutes trying to figure out a twitter user name that wasn’t already taken (I’m really picky when it comes to these things) and I just realized that no, I will not acquest to this trend. That I’m going to take a stand against this current generations onslaught of, as one person put it, “verbal diarrhea.”

But some of you will say “Oh, but Sindy! Poor, poor, naive, ignorant, and disillusioned Sindy. Don’t you know? This is the future of communication! Stop being so old fashioned, you’re going to fall by the wayside if you continue in your foolish ways.” And I say to you–annoying voice that occasionally counter-argues my stances and forces me to spend what would normally be a ten minute grocery shopping trip turned into a hour just because I can’t decide if I’d rather buy chunky or smooth peanut butter–I say you, how can we justify the need clutter news and information with random half-formed sentences? We’re saying less with less, and it’s becoming a rather irritating fad.

People aren’t generating content, they’re just generating noise

That isn’t to say that there isn’t good things that come out of Twittering, or social networking as a whole, but the whole experience seems to be denigrating into shared experience of how much one person can one up another, instead of bridging the gap between cultures and societies.

But this whole note may carry the same weight as spitting in the rain, odds are Twitter will probably lose popularity in about five years, sooner if they go forward with their implementation of charging for their services. Then again, by that time, a whole new social networking site/service will probably pop up.

I will admit, there have been some interesting tweets that have been informative &/or entertaining to read…so the whole thing can’t be discredited.

Summertime Blues

Ahh, the summer’s made me lazy~

After running that ordeals of final projects, I feel a little burnt out (the allergy’s not helping)

I’ll make a more formal post later (hopefully).

But somethings I want to note before I forget them:

  • I got my model back from prototyping
  • I’m heading to Taiwan on the 20th
  • I need to revamp some things either here or on the main site (design, twitter, last fm, and maybe a youtube feed–additionally adding more ways to contact me)
  • Recall that I need to actually submit the site to a search engine
  • Revamp portfolio

So instead of working on my projects, I end up doing this. In order to show my dispondency on not doing work. By drawing something something that ultimately has nothing to do with my projects. Catch 22, right?

ProtomanFunny enough, I was working on this one first. Right in the middle of shading I was informed by Izzy that Nihei finally released a new series. \o/ horray~. It’s about time he released something. Maybe I’ll get a chance to track it down later this weekend.

Oh Wow

So while I was wandering downtown, I passed by Moe’s and noticed this poster advertising this. Amazingly enough, it is as it says: you can pretty much download all the Auto CAD programs for free. The only catch is that the programs include a “includes a print banner making the software inappropriate for professional, commercial, or for-profit purposes.” For those of you who are more visual learners, AutoDesk means this:

So not entirely perfect, but it’s great for students.
